Synopsis
When working in London in the mid-2000’s, Des O’Shaughnessy and Lester Jones devised a clinical reasoning tool to help clinicians manage the complexity of pain. This tool, the Pain and Movement Reasoning Model, was primarily designed to assist physiotherapists working in musculoskeletal outpatient departments but has now been shown to have relevance in a range of clinical contexts. In a recent study, physiotherapists working in diverse clinical areas including neurology, post-surgical wards, emergency department, women’s health and a pain management clinic, reported the tool was appropriate and beneficial to their clinical practice. In this presentation, Lester will present the format of the Model, some examples of application, and how it can be adapted to different clinical contexts and professions.
