Sports Medicine Association Singapore (SMAS) is the registered society for Sports Medicine and Sports Science professionals in Singapore. Our members represent and embody the multi-disciplinary spirit that is key to the specialty. Our integrated community includes doctors, physiotherapists, podiatrists, sports nutritionists and dieticians, exercise physiologists, sports scientists and sports psychologists. We are a non-profit organisation committed to the promotion of quality Sports Medicine and Sports Science education to the sporting community in Singapore and beyond.

COUNCIL MEMBER

Dr. Mandy is a Consultant with the Department of Sport & Exercise Medicine, Changi General Hospital. Her clinical interests include performing arts medicine, exercise prescription, sports injury prevention and musculoskeletal ultrasonography. She is also Chair of the SMAS Performing Arts Medicine Special Interest Group.

COUNCIL MEMBER

Hwee Koon is a Senior Principal Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist at BMJ Sports. She has extensive experience with treating musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries. She has 20 years of clinical practice in injury management and prevention, rehabilitation, sport and health performance enhancement services, with on-field experience working with athletes of all levels, including professionals and elite athletes.

Tye is a Podiatrist in private practice. He has over 30 years of working experience in Australia, Malaysia & Singapore. He has been treating professional and elite athletes from the Singapore Sport Institute, National Youth Sports Institute, Singapore Sports School, Football Association Singapore, Lion City Sailors Football Club and The School of the Arts (Dance Faculty) for nearly 25 years.

Dr. Dinesh practices at International Orthopaedic Clinic, Farrer Park Hospital. He is a specialist in Sports Medicine, who provides non-surgical care for musculoskeletal and sports-related conditions, supporting athletes and active individuals. With a focus on helping patients return to their usual activities, he adopts a patient-centred approach in his clinical care.

HONORARY EDITOR

Dr. Joshua is a Consultant with the Singapore Sport & Exercise Medicine Centre (SSMC) at Changi General Hospital (CGH) and High Performance Sports Institute (HPSI). His clinical interests include endurance sport and ultrasound-guided injection therapies. A competitive marathoner and member of the Singapore national triathlon team, he is a six-time Ironman triathlon finisher with a sub-10 hour personal best timing.

HONORARY TREASURER

Micheal is an exercise physiologist by training, his specialties include exercise prescription for children, clinical exercise testing, and strength & conditioning for junior athletes.

HONORARY SECRETARY

Dr. Ivy is Chief and Senior Consultant with the Department of Sport & Exercise Medicine, Changi General Hospital. Her clinical interests include sports injuries, pre-participation screening, sports safety, exercise in women and the role of physical activity in chronic disease management. She has been an avid air rifle shooter since her secondary school days.

2ND VICE-PRESIDENT

Dr. Gen Lin is the Medical Director and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Apex Sports Clinic. He specialises in minimally-invasive treatment of sports injuries and hip preservation surgery. Outside of work, he ‘runs the talk’ by competing in all kinds of sports, especially endurance events and HYROX.

Dr. Jorming is a Research Assistant Professor and leads the Exercise Physiology & Biomarkers (EPB) Laboratory at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He is a faculty member of the NUS Healthy Longevity Translational Research Program and holds a joint appointment with the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS). As an exercise physiologist, Jorming has spent the past 20 years of his career studying pre-clinical animal models of cancer and aging to different areas of human health, disease and performance. He enjoys tennis, running, strength training and martial arts.

Dr. Victor is a Consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine and Internal Medicine at Changi General Hospital. His clinical interests include sports injury management, weight management and exercise in cancer. His sporting interests include badminton, karate, ultimate frisbee and running. He has provided medical cover at SEA Games ’19, ’21 and ’23, and F1 Singapore Grand Prix since 2016.

Mr. Etienne Ding is an exercise physiologist with more than a decade of clinical practice and experience in the private and public sectors, having practised in organisations like Apple and the Ministry of Defence. Mr. Lemuel Lee is a healthcare administrator in Clinical Transformation and Value-Based Care at NHG Health, Singapore. With a background in sports and exercise sciences and experience as an Exercise Physiologist and Operations Manager, he combines clinical insight, operational efficiency, and strategic thinking in healthcare transformation. Dr. Ridhuan Joe is an Adjunct Lecturer in Sports Science, specializing in motor control and technology-enhanced learning. He earned his PhD by designing and evaluating a custom-built Real-time Augmented feedback in Learning (ReAL) Tool. Dr. Shuen Yee Lee is a clinical research scientist at Dyson. Her research interest is in exercise and ageing physiology, particularly in the field of exercise and its impact on frailty, chronic diseases and cognitive function outcomes. With her extensive work experience in both corporate and academic institutions, Shuen believes in translating science to create real-world impact. Outside of work, she enjoys running, hiking, badminton and martial arts.

Vice-Chair

Mr. Edward Say is a personal trainer and online coach focusing on resistance training for hypertrophy and fat loss in the general population. As a freelance personal trainer, he works with clients across various gym settings to achieve their health and fitness goals via evidence-based approaches to exercise and nutrition. As an educator with FIT Asia, he teaches new personal trainers the essential skills in coaching and analysing exercise, and programming resistance training to achieve time-constrained fitness outcomes.

Dr. Eevon Chia’s mission is to improve long-term health, vitality, and productivity through the science of exercise.
